Green spaces across Westminster have blossomed again as some of the best in the capital at the London in Bloom awards.

It was awarded the top place in several categories this year as well as several Gold and Silver Gilt awards.

London Park of the Year was awarded to Victoria Embankment Gardens, and Mill Hill Cemetery also came top in its category, being awarded London’s Cemetery of the Year. The borough also took the top award for floral displays for the quality of planting at parks and open spaces across the city.

Councillor Steve Summers, Westminster City Council cabinet member for sports, leisure and customer services, said: “To win so many awards and particularly at Gold standard is a fantastic achievement. Our parks and gardens are a stark contrast to some of the busier areas of Westminster and we are glad we can offer our residents and visitors pockets of greenery and top quality floral displays in the middle of the city.

“What is particularly good is that we have done well in lots of different categories this year and I would like to congratulate our hard working parks team, residents and volunteers who have all done a fantastic job.”

London in Bloom is designed to promote gardening, horticulture and biodiversity across the city and recognises the efforts individuals, businesses and community groups make to brighten up their local community through gardening and horticultural efforts.
