Infection rates at West Middlesex Hospital have fallen by more than a third in the last year, according to the latest figures.

Medics at the hospital in Twickenham Road, Isleworth, recorded 21 cases of MRSA between April 2007 and March 2008, compared with 38 during the same period last year - a drop of 44 per cent.

The number of C.difficile infections among patients aged 65 fell from 53 cases between January 2007 and March 2007 to just 34 in the same period this year - a drop of 36 per cent.

Nationally, the latest figures from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) show MRSA infections have nearly halved in the last five years and C.difficile infections are down 32 per cent compared with this time last year.
