Patients have blasted nurses and doctors at West Middlesex Hospital for their rude bedside manner in an online opinion forum.

PatientOpinion.org.uk allows hospital visitors to post their personal experiences on the website, with the problem of rude staff being one of the most popular posts about West Mid.

One patient "Vickie" wrote: "What could be improved? Health care assistants, some are extremely rude and unsympathetic to your needs, many times the elderly ladies are waiting for half hour plus for a bed pan, its unacceptable."

An anonymous woman who visited the hospital to give birth posted: "The doctor had no bedside manner and one of the nurses was very abrupt with me when I asked for help in breast feeding."

Other posts list the staff as "harsh and uncaring" and a patient named R. J. Howell wrote: "Ambulance staff and consultant were excellent, but the rest of the staff are poor. The consultant does not get support from other depts. The admin staff are unhelpful. Make visits to hospital less pleasant. I will put in a formal complaint when my treatment is completed is that ever happens. A three month recovery period has now lasted 28 months."

Another patient that wishes to remain anonymous commented on how pleased she was with her surgery carried out by the gynaecological team and how she was able to go home on the same day with minimum discomfort. But she then goes on to say: "My only criticism would be the attitude of some of the staff nurses. One nurse was particularly rude and unhelpful, displaying unprofessional behaviour by being rude to patients and colleagues."

A spokesman from West Middlesex University Hospital encouraged patients with a complaint to contact the Patient and Advice Liaison Service (PALS). He said:  "We welcome patients' comments, whether positive or less so. This feedback is invaluable as it allows us to improve our services and focus on areas that require improvement.

"We accept that we don't always get it right for everyone, but we receive more compliments than complaints and many of the comments on the Patient Opinion website are very positive."
