You might associate it with Harrods and King's Road boutiques, but west London is actually the Greggs capital of Britain.

According to the Food Standards Agency, of the ten areas in Britain with the most Greggs stores per square mile there are three from west London.

Despite only having two Greggs stores, when area is taken into account Kensington and Chelsea has the largest number of stores with 1.07 every square mile.

Hammersmith and Fulham were third with 0.79 Greggs per square mile and Westminster was tenth with 0.52 stores per square mile.

Brent was also well above the national average of 0.11 Greggs stores per square mile with 0.26.

The places with the most Greggs stores for every 100,000 people are:

Newcastle - 10.8

Gateshead - 9

Allerdale - 8.3

Glasgow - 7.9

West Dunbartonshire - 7.8

Copeland - 7.1

Cardiff - 7.1

Sunderland - 6.9

Edinburgh - 6.8

Only 35 out of 372 local authorities in Britain were found to not contain a Greggs.

Greggs' domination of the Bakery scene in Britain looked set to continue on Monday as the pasty shop revealed a predicted boost to profits this year following a 5.4% jump in like-for-like sales for the 11 weeks to last weekend.

Every Greggs should be inspected by the FSA with each store's hygiene rating published on the FSA's website. However, it is not guaranteed that every store will be on there.

City of London - 4.46

Kensington and Chelsea - 1.07

Islington - 0.87

Hammersmith and Fulham - 0.79

Tower Hamlets - 0.62

Hackney - 0.61

Watford - 0.6

Camden - 0.59

Oadby and Wigston - 0.55

Westminster - 0.52

The City of London was officially the area of Britain with both the most Greggs per head with 39.2 for every 100,000 residents and also for the most Greggs per square mile with 4.46.

However, due to the extreme disparity between the number of people who work there and the number who actually live there it was removed from the study.
