AS ONE of those involved in the original twinning initiative between Hounslow and Ramallah in the 1980s, I was delighted to read of the efforts of Aun Qurashi and his colleagues to revive the Town Twinning Association.

The inaugural meeting at St Mary's Church Hall, Osterley Road, Isleworth, at 6.30pm on Monday, February 15, will be an opportunity for everyone who has expressed an interest in the project to become involved in future plans.

The fact that Professor Manuel Hassassian, the Palestinian ambassador, will be present is an indication that our colleagues in Ramallah fully support this attempt to rebuild the educational, social and cultural links which were achieved in the earlier period.

In addition, the renewed twinning will help to broaden the understanding in our own community of the daily hardship endured by people living in Ramallah, a town just a few miles down the road from the Jerusalem.
