AN EXPANDING family-owned bakery chain has won industry recognition for the makeover of its website, stores, products and packaging.

Wenzel’s The Bakers, whose head office is in Bridge Street, Pinner, won The Retail Innovation Award at the 25th Baking Industry Awards for the rebranding that began in August 2011.

The company has branches in London, West Ealing, Hertfordshire, and Uxbridge, with the bulk located in Harrow and Hillingdon boroughs.

General manager Sarah Wenzel, who collected the accolade from Australian pop star and actor Jason Donovan on September 12, said: “I’m delighted. It means a great deal to everyone in the company that their vision, hard work and achievements have been recognised.”

Wenzel’s, which was established in 1975, initially contracted Ech Design, a website design and graphic design firm based in Rayners Lane, South Harrow, to update the corporate website, but the consultancy went on to play a considerable part in refitting the company’s 24 shops – a number which will rise to 30 before the end of the 2012/13 financial year.

Ms Wenzel said the new look was ‘streamlined and customer-focussed’, but maintains the company’s signature shade of orange.
