Hoards of bargain-hunting fashionistas will descend on a Wembley warehouse this Saturday for one of the biggest clothing sales the borough has ever seen.

Angels - Europe's largest film and theatrical costumier - is selling off around 30,000 items of surplus stock at the one-off event and is expecting hundreds of shoppers to battle it out for the best buys.

Vintage and retro fashion items from the 1930s to the present day will be up for grabs, as well as a miscellany of quirkier costumes that could come in handy for fancy dress parties or for the costume cupboards of amateur dramatics societies.

A number of outfits that have featured in films such as Indiana Jones and Star Wars will also be on sale, along with items worn in television programmes such as Dr Who, Absolutely Fabulous, Ashes to Ashes, Dad's Army and Last of the Summer Wine.

Costumes that have appeared in music videos for Gwen Stefani, Mika, and Coldplay will also be up for grabs.

Tim Angel, the fifth generation of the family to run the business, said: "Over the years we have accumulated the worldÕs largest collection of authentic costumes.

"Now we are running out of space and given repeated demands from the public to buy items of our stock, we feel the time is right to hold this sale."

Props and accessories ranging from shields and pieces of body armour, to costume jewellery, hats, shoes and a number of vintage fashion magazines and source books will also be included in the sale.

It is the first time in Angels' 160-year history that stock will be sold directly to the public.

Top fashion houses regularly use the company's costume collection, which has more than 5 million pieces as inspiration for their own collections.

Mr Angel added: "It is a fantastic opportunity for people to lay their hands on clothes that have appeared in some famous productions over the years; get a genuine vintage fashion look; create their own clothes from original fabrics or just replenish their wardrobes at a truly credit crunch price."

Angels' stock has recently been expanded by the acquisition of the BBC Resources Costumes and a number of these items will be at the unique sale.

And items from designers such as BIBA, Quorum, YSL, Bus Stop, Jaques Azagury, and Jean Muir.

Clothes will not be priced individually, but instead shoppers will buy an empty bag upon entry and can fill it at will.

A medium-sized bag costs £10 with a 'supersize' bag also available for £20 and customers can buy as many bags as they wish.

The sale will take place between 9am-5pm at Angels Warehouse, in East Lane Business Park.
