A local opticians in Wembley celebrated their 20th birthday by raising money for a children's charity.

The team at Specsavers in the High Road, Wembley organised face painters for the children, performers for the public and the Mayor of Brent came down to cut the birthday cake.

The store organised the event to celebrate 20 years of providing optical services in the community and offered visitors a slice of cake and the little ones party bags.

The Mayor, Councillor Kana Naheerathan says: "It was a wonderful day and I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of it - I even had an eye test to get into the spirit! I would like to congratulate the store on their strong presence in the community and I’d like to wish them all the luck going forward with another 20 years."

The store also helped to raise money for Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity which grants wishes for seriously and terminally ill children around the UK. The charity was founded in 2003 and since then has made more than 3,500 wishes come true – helping children aged three to 18 to enjoy a moment of escape away from their illness.

CEO of Rays of Sunshine, Jane Sharpe said: "We are so grateful to Specsavers for choosing to support Rays of Sunshine. While we are a national charity our office is based in Wembley, which meant we were able to come down on the day to get involved.

"It was great to be able to see the amazing efforts the store had gone to, not to mention the incredible cupcakes, £168 was raised on the day which will help us to make a wish come true for a seriously ill child.

"We really appreciate the ongoing support of Specsavers, Wembley, and look forward to working together to help more brave and deserving children in the future."

Store director, Rakesh Kapoor said: "The day was a huge success and we had a wonderful time celebrating with all our guests. We love to get involved with our community in Wembley and it was a perfect opportunity to raise money and awareness for such a worthy cause as Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity.

"We now look forward to the next 20 years of providing high-quality eye care to residents around the Wembley area."
