A WEMBLEY supermarket boss has picked up a top gong at an industry awards bash.

Nathen Newark, who manages the ASDA superstore in Forty Lane, was named store manager of the year at the prestigious Grocer Gold Awards, dubbed 'the Oscars of the food and drink industry', held at Guildhall.

Judges were impressed with his store's contribution to the local charities and the community, its recycling initiatives, and Mr Newark's training programme for colleagues with English as a second language.

Mr Newark said of the win: "It's overwhelming. The best bit about the job is working with great colleagues. They inspire me to come to work the next day. if I wasn’t passionate about what I do, I wouldn’t have won."
