Hammersmith and Fulham Council's deputy leader has hailed a 15 per cent fall in crime, claiming the borough is now the safest it has ever been.

Metropolitan Police statistics showed there were 3,295 fewer incidents in 2013 compared to the previous year, and comes at a time when the Tory-led council is spending £1.3million a year on extra beat police.

Greg Smith said: "Crime is at an all-time low in Hammersmith and Fulham and continues to fall thanks to the fantastic joint working between residents’ groups – like Neighbourhood Watch – and various council and police teams."
