A water park company has admitted to poor public safety at its site in Gloucester where a Feltham teenage girl drowned four years ago.

The owners of Cotswold Water Park, WM Active Ltd, pleaded guilty to failing to ensure the safety of non-employees and exposing them to health and safety risks.

This followed from the death of Kajil Devi, 15, of South Road, Feltham, who died while playing in the water with her two cousins at Cotswold Country Park and Beach in 2010.

The case was heard at Gloucester Crown Court and Mr Justice Teare adjourned the case for sentencing in October.

During a four-day inquest last April a coroner ruled accidental death.

The inquest heard the three youngsters were playing with an inflatable dinghy in one of the water park lakes when it started to drift away with one of the young children in it, on July 11, 2010.

Miss Devi reached for the rope to pull it back but slipped into the water and disappeared for about 20 minutes due to confusion as to whether she was still in the water or had gone onto the beach to go to the toilet.

However she was found under water by a swimmer but could not be resuscitated and died in hospital the following day.

The lake's management and the organisation were criticised as only two inexperienced lifeguards had been on duty at the time.

Assistant deputy Gloucester coroner Tom Osborne said Kajil had probably just slipped under the water when she got out of her depth and even if more lifeguards had been on duty, it was unlikely that she would have been seen.

The Devi family plans to sue the company began in April 2012, following the coroners ruling of accidental death.

Miss Devi's family spoke to the Chronicle of their shock back in July 2010.

Tributes were paid to the "kind" and "happy" teen who attended Feltham Community School.

Miss Devi was also one of three teens who teamed up with a charity in a bid to tackle racism and violence, as part of a school project in 2009.
