People have rallied together to petition for works to restore one of Ealing’s landmark residential estates.

More than 100 signatures have been collected by the owners and residents of Ealing Village in North Ealing to ask Ealing Council’s planning committee to support the need for external repairs to the Grade II listed building at the planning meeting on Wednesday (January 14).

Ealing Village, built as the home for the stars of the Ealing Film Studios, was once a luxury estate but has suffered decades of under-investment and decline, resulting in severe leaks, water ingress, damp living conditions and potentially unsafe structures, say frustrated petitioners.

Proposals by its leaseholders who have drafted a £6 million ten year business plan include new roofs, repairs to balconies, a Crittall double glazed exact replica of the original windows and external repainting.

Chair of the Ealing Village board, Dan Johnson, said: “As we reach the culmination of several years of planning and hard work it is great for us to have the backing of the majority of the community for the plans to reverse the decline and provide dry, warm living conditions and restoration of a much loved jewel in Ealing’s crown.”

Ealing Village was built in 1934-36, designed by R Thomas and Partners for Bell Property in Dutch Colonial style.
