CAT lovers are being warned of a vicious dog roving in the Bedfont area after an 18-month old kitten was mauled to death.

Anne, 75, of Bedfont who is still grieving, and friend, Mrs Edwards, 69, of Feltham, are keen to alert families raising pets that a Staffordshire in nearby Elmcroft Close is chasing down cats.

The elderly women believe Ruby was killed by a terrorising brindle (black and brown) Staffie, and have called on the dog's neighbour who returned the cat's collar after burying her in a park near Pevensey Road, to bring the dead cat back home.

Anne who has five other cats, said: "I want to warn people about this dog. We don't want to hear about any more animals deaths. I am very sad and upset and fear for my other cats. You cannot keep them indoors all the time. I find myself going around two or three times a day to check they are still here. Look after your cats and keep a close eye on them."

Mrs Edwards said: "My friend has lost two cats. One we know was killed by the dog and we believe another one met the same fate. Lots of people in the area have cats, and my friend has seen the dog chase cats along the embankment and it's just not on. It's very upsetting and we do not want anyone else to go through the same fate."

The incident happened over the bank holiday weekend and the cat was found on Mon (Aug 27) last week. The following day when the women were driving by Elmcroft Close they noticed the gate in the back garden of the dog owner's house was left wide open, making it easy for the dog to chase other cats in the area, they said. The second cat which went missing more than eight weeks ago is now believed to have met the same horrific end.
