A BOY from Heston was rushed to hospital after a wardrobe fell on him during a family shopping trip.

Five-year-old Prabjhot Bharaj was pinned underneath a 6ft tall wardrobe at B&Q, in Glencoe Road, Yeading, and his face was cut by a shattered mirror. His horrified family witnessed the whole incident.

Prabjhot, of Hedley Gardens, was taken by ambulance to Hillingdon Hospital, where he received nine stitches to the wound on his face.

His father, Tejinder, said: "It was terrible. His mother was hysterical, in severe shock and constantly crying. She ran to lift the wardrobe off him but she couldn't. I had to help her.

"An off-duty policeman who was shopping came to our aid. Prabjhot's hair was covered in glass and he was bleeding badly. He has a twin brother and an eight-year-old brother, who are finding it hard to get back to normal after seeing what has happened to their brother.

"We have kept him off school for a few days to let him recover."

Mr Bharaj and his family were out shopping for new furniture for a loft extension when the accident happened at about 11.30pm on October 4. "He opened the door and it just toppled on to him," Mr Bharaj added.

"A five-year-old boy should not be able to pull over a 6ft wardrobe. It was free-standing and should have been secured. It should have had sandbags inside it. Other cupboards were secured.

"We were on a family day out. It was unbelievable. We spent the whole day in hospital."

As well as the stitches to his face, Prabjhot also has a bruised back.

A B&Q spokesman said: "We take customer safety very seriously. We can confirm there was an incident at our Yeading store involving a boy of five. We would like to wish him a full and speedy recovery."
