A charity hospital radio station has been awarded £2,500 after a volunteer was honoured by his employer for his out-of-office community contribution.

Radio Northwick Park, which has kept patients of the Watford Road hospital entertained since it began broadcasting in 1971, had one presenter recognised for their efforts during the Community Champion Awards, ran by the Daily Mail General Trust (DMGT) to praise the charitable work done by its employees..

Matt Blank, who is the lead designer for the Daily Mail-owned Metro website, won the Highly Commended award for Personal Achievement for his work at Radio Northwick Park.

He said: “It feels great that my employer recognises my efforts outside work and has awarded Radio Northwick Park.”

“This money will go a long way to keep the charity alive and will help volunteers provide better patient-visiting services on the wards.

"I’m very grateful and thankful to DMGT for this.”
