BUSINESS is the lifeblood of our economy so it seems strange to start choking it off in times of need by increasing rates.
When the Government is pumping money into propping up the banks and trying to boost consumer spending, surely some of those billions could go into easing pressure on small businesses directly. But what must really rub salt in the wound is the tax rise being based on last year's inflation rate, even though it is now at a flat zero.
Rather than suggesting how to spread the cost, the Government should realise the formula is wrong.
NHS staff need better support
FOR the second time in as many weeks, another resident of the borough has a complaint about Ealing Hospital.
Like many sites up and down the country, the hospital has had a less-than-perfect track record during the past year, and public complaints never help.
There is nothing to be gained from repeatedly kicking the staff who work around the clock to save lives and ensure the wellbeing of people living in Ealing.
But the onus is on bosses to make the extra effort in ensuring that the Uxbridge Road hospital is a place that the majority of patients will praise, not criticise.
