Don’t let Uxbridge lose its most famous resident.

He may only be an alleged Italian Mafia boss, but he’s OUR alleged Italian Mafia boss.

Come with me back to August 8, 2013, a date that the good people of Uxbridge will never forget.

A typical, quiet, suburban midsummer morning was turned upside down by the news that Domenico Rancadore, an alleged Italian Mafia boss (who we’d never heard of, but let’s not let that spoil the magic), had been arrested ... IN UXBRIDGE.

Now, I can’t speak for the whole town, but I can certainly speak for Windsor Street when I say there was what can only be described as a ‘carnival atmosphere’.

Window cleaners put down their squeegies, milkmen dropped their milk all over the pavement and young children, for the first time in a decade, stopped toe-punting pigeons down the High Street. What a day!

There was talk of nothing else for the entire week.

Well, brace yourselves, gentle townsfolk, but those pesky Italians want him back.

“You what?”, I hear you cry. “Over our dead body!”

They must have loads of ‘em over there. I bet they’re tripping over alleged Italian Mafia bosses in, err, Italy.

Do they not realise that this is the single most exciting thing to ever happen to our small corner of west London?

So this morning we have learned from Westminster Magistrates’ Court that he is staying. For now.

The Italian government is highly likely to appeal, but meanwhile you can do your bit.

Should we make that a permanent arrangement? Do you think we should keep Domenico Rancadore here?

Or should he be sent back to Italy to face the music.

YOU DECIDE! (Well, actually, you don’t; it’s just a bit of fun).

Should Uxbridge keep its only alleged Italian Mafia boss?
