A LUCKY raffle winner had a supermarket sweep around Waitrose, grabbing more than £250 worth of goodies in a timed trolley dash for charity.

Ruislip Lions organised the event at the store in Kings End, Ruislip, and raised £996 through selling raffle tickets for the chance to fill a trolley. The money will be split between local charities.

Winner Vicky Brownlee used the dash as a chance to pick up items for a family reunion.

She said: “I was so pleased to win the raffle as my parents are visiting next week from South Shields, and the trolley dash let me collect special items that I would not usually buy.”

Vicky, who is also chairwoman of the Friends of Ruislip Lido, was timed as she raced around the store, grabbing as many items as she could in two minutes.

There was no Dale Winton to meet her at the finish line, but instead Ruislip Lion’s mascot Roary, along with organiser of the dash, Lions member Peter Trott, and store supervisor Eileen Howe.

The other Lions, as well as Hillingdon Mayor Alan Kauffman, looked on in amazement at Vicky’s speed and planning, as she went home with £269 worth of food.
