Millions of commuters in London are experiencing rush-hour chaos as Underground workers go on strike today.

A limited service is operating at full capacity. Millions are workers are said to be struggling to get to their offices, and traffic throughout London and the motorways is said to be heavier than normal as commuters take to their cars.

Among the hardest hit routes is the A40 where traffic was jammed all the way back to the M25 slip road.

The 48 hours strike, called by the RMT and TSSA unions over proposed job cuts and ticket office closures, started at 11pm yesterday.

RMT leader Bob Crow said the strike was "rock solid".
