I READ your article on the replacement of water pipes and electrical safety with great interest.

Being safety aware, and knowing that I live in an older property in Ickenham, I was extremely alarmed and worried by the warning about electrical earthing. I was also concerned about the number of elderly people, like my 82-year-old mother, who do not understand the implication of the warning.

I felt annoyed that I have been put to the trouble of finding an electrician to come and survey my property and my mother's. It transpires that we both need electrical work done to make our homes safe.

As yet I do not know how much this will cost, as I am still waiting for the estimates. It will mean that both properties will need wiring work which, if we can afford to have it done, will cause a lot of upheaval. We also had to pay the electrician's call-out fee.

I objected strongly to the tone of the warning, which accepted no responsibility at all, and I feel that Veolia should go some way to help those affected meet the costs of work which the householder had not anticipated.
