POLICE have been cracking down on uninsured drivers.

Seven vehicles were seized and one person arrested for possession of class ‘A’ drugs in the borough last week.

Fifty officers from a range of units set up stop points from the top to the bottom of the borough, assisted by Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras.

Harvill Road in Harefield, Field End Road in Ruislip and Eastcote, Cowley Mill Road and Cowley Road in Uxbridge, Charville Lane, Park Road and Coldharbour Lane in Hayes, Harmondsworth Road and Cherry Lane in West Drayton and Harlington High Street were all targeted as part of Operation Cubo.

Inspector Mike Smith, who coordinated the operation, said: “We have achieved good results with Operation Cubo.

“We know that 80 per cent of uninsured drivers are habitual criminals – and they are five times more likely to be involved in collisions.

“These operations are being conducted to disrupt the offenders that use their vehicles to commit crime in Hillingdon borough and beyond, and transport weapons, drugs and stolen property.”

Uninsured vehicles are immediately seized and potentially destroyed, and offenders will be prosecuted.

The penalty for driving a vehicle without insurance is six points on the driver’s licence and a £200 fine, and can even lead to a driving ban in some circumstances.
