A van driver who collided with a motorcycle and killed the rider has been jailed for seven years.

36-year-old Eleuterio Da Silva-Dias admitted causing death by careless driving whilst over the drink drive limit and aggravated taking and driving away.

The Portuguese national of Ashmead Road, Feltham, was jailed at Isleworth Crown Court for seven years and four months for both offences.

Da Silva-Dias was also disqualified from driving for ten years.

An investigation was launched after police were called to a collision between a black Suzuki motorcycle and a white VW pickup truck in Bath Road, Hayes just after 9pm on Thursday, June 6 last year.

Police and London Ambulance Service were called but motorcyclist Krzysztof Dygasiewicz, 34 and from Poland, was pronounced dead at the scene, near to the junction with Noble Drive. He was living in High Street, Cranford, at the time.

The van Da Silva-Dias was driving - a company vehicle which he did not have permission to drive at the time of the collision - turned right at speed in front of Mr Dyagasiewicz's motorbike.

He was arrested at the scene.

Detective Sergeant Jane Mallet of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "The careless actions of Da Silva-Dias while behind the wheel of a vehicle has resulted in the death of an innocent man.
"While nothing can replace the loss of Krzysztof, I hope this sentencing goes some way to providing closure to his friends and family."

Charges against Da Silva-Dias, of causing death by dangerous driving and causing death whilst driving uninsured, were ordered to lie on file.
