A VAN driver from has appeared in court to deny killing an RAF station commander by dangerous driving.

Paul Luker, 51, of Beaconsfield Road, Farnham Royal, denied one charge of causing death by careless or dangerous driving at the Friday, October 14 hearing at Harrow Crown Court.

It is alleged that Mr Luker killed Group Captain Tomas Arne Barrett , commander of RAF Northolt as Mr Barrett cycled along the A40 close to the base on March 10 this year.

The 45-year-old victim, who lived in Beaconsfield with his wife and two daughters, had had a distinguished and highly decorated military career, being awarded the OBE and serving as an aide-de-camp to the Queen.

He was, at the time of his death, in training for the Eurodash charity cycle ride – a 1,400 mile ride from Bari, Italy back to RAF Northolt, in aid of the RAF Benevolent Fund.

Northolt colleagues completed the ride last month, dedicating their efforts to Gp Capt Barrett's memory.

Judge Stephen Holt released Mr Luker on unconditional bail ahead of his trial, scheduled for February 20, 2012.
