Valentino has become the latest designer store to be targeted by 'smash and grab' thieves.

A man has been taken into custody following the raid on the flagship UK store in Sloane Street in the early hours of this morning (August 7).

Shortly before 12:30am last night, three scooters with five drivers and pillion riders wearing dark clothing and helmets pulled up to Valentino and used one of the mopeds to force open the door.

They then made off with a number of high-value handbags. It is not known how many bags at the moment but they are valued up to just under £2,000.

Two scooters made off towards Marylebone after the robbery and a third towards Kilburn. Police then arrested a man in Ladbroke Grove and recovered a scooter but no stolen property.

This is the third such raid of a flagship designer store in the Knightsbridge street in 15 months. Gucci was targeted in March last year and Louis Vuitton in June this year .

Homeless man Christopher Gibbs, 31, was jailed last week for raiding second-hand designer bag shop, the Designer Exchange, just around the corner in Egerton Terrace on May 24.

The investigation into this morning's raid is ongoing and police have said it is too early to say if it is linked to the three other similar offences.

Any witnesses or anybody with information should call Kensington and Chelsea police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
