Funfairs, live music and dancing will be among the attractions at two Vaisakhi celebrations this Sunday (April 13).

A Vaisakhi Mela in Lampton Park, Hounslow, organised by Akash Radio, will feature Punjabi film actor Binnu Dhillon, comedian and actor Rana Ranbir, and singers Debi Makhsoospuri and K S Bhamra.

There will also be performances from bhangra and giddha groups, along with a funfair and food and market stalls at the event, running from midday to 7pm.

The fair, organised to promote the Punjabi language, culture and heritage, and sponsored by Lyca Mobile, will also be a dry event, with no alcohol or smoking permitted on site.

Over at Norwood Green Park, in Norwood Green, the Vaisakhi celebrations organised by Asian Events Media, and running from midday to 6pm, will include a bouncy castle, children's rides and food stalls.

On stage, hosts Sharon Sharma and Doni Brasco will introduce DJ sets by Intermix and Manj B, with appearances from other artists including Inderjit London and Kaur Cheema.

Vaisakhi is the Sikh New Year festival, which also celebrates the formation of the brotherhood of the Khalsa, one of the most important dates in the religion's history.
