AN UXBRIDGE charity with links back to the 1700s is being investigated by the charity commission.

The Uxbridge United Welfare Trust is under investigation after concerns were raised into its finances.

A charity commission spokesperson said: "Concerns have been raised with the Charity Commission about the governance of the charity Uxbridge United Welfare Trusts.

"Having assessed the concerns the Commission has opened a regulatory compliance case to investigate them. The trustees of the charity are aware of this."

The trust describe themselves as a charitable organisation whose purpose is to relieve poverty in and around Uxbridge, and give out grants to relief and educational purposes.

Rents from a portfolio of businesses and properties in Windsor Street, Uxbridge and around it, make up the majority of the charity's income.
