Frustrated neighbours say missing signs in a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) mean they are paying to park outside their homes while others park in the same street for free.

Brian Triggs, 67, of Brassie Avenue in East Acton, said between 9am-10am and 2pm-3pm no one is supposed to park in his street without a permit, which costs £50 per car each year.

He said, however, that while some bays are signposted with these rules, others are not, meaning people can park in the unsigned bays for free and do not get parking tickets as there is nothing to say they should not do so.

Ealing Council said it has now noted the missing signs and will replace them as soon as possible.

Mr Triggs said: “When is a parking zone a parking zone? To me it is when everything inside that zone is equal. Each parking zone has a time zone post.

“On one side (of the street) there’s posts in the bays and on the other there isn’t.

“This means on one side anybody who wants to come up can do so. It’s mainly minicabs and people using the station.

“We think it has been like this since 2008 when the council re-laid the surface to pavements.

“In the past Ealing borough wardens would issue parking tickets, now the council have private wardens who will not issue a ticket unless there’s a post. The council is at fault. Think of the revenue they have lost.”

Mr Triggs said he has complained to the council at least nine times and spent about two and a half hours in their offices a few weeks ago.

The 67-year-old said he is speaking on behalf of about eight people living in his area who just want the council to mark up all the bays.

He added that he has just got a new vehicle and will not buy a permit for it but will park in an unmarked bay for free, as others are doing.

A council spokesperson said: “Following a complaint from this resident, we have noted that enforcement signs are missing from some of the bays in Brassie Road. An officer has been sent down to the road today (Monday October 13) to confirm the exact location of the missing signs and they will be replaced as soon as possible.”
