THE death of a 22-year-old man whose lifeless body was discovered on the rails at Harrow and Wealdstone railway station is currently "unexplained", police say.

It was spotted by the driver of the 8.35pm Virgin Trains-run Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston service heading south.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “BTP officers attended Harrow and Wealdstone rail station on Sunday, 25 September after a train driver reported seeing a man’s body on the tracks at 8.54pm.

“The man, aged 22 and from Paddington, London was pronounced dead at the scene and is believed to have been struck by a train.

“The incident is currently being treated as unexplained and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

“Officers are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the man’s death, including how he came to be on the tracks.”

The line was suspended at 9pm between London Euston and Watford Junction, with a rail replacement bus operating between the two, and reopened at 12.20am this morning.
