Unemployment figures have decreased with 3,145 less people claiming Jobseeker’s allowance in Ealing than in 2010.

Figures published yesterday (January 21) by the Office of National Statistics showed that for Ealing as a whole, there were 8,298 claimants in December 2010 and 5,153 in December 2014.

Thomas O’Malley, Conservative candidate to be the next MP for Ealing North, has welcomed the new figures showing 1,126 fewer people in Ealing North are claiming Jobseeker’s allowance since 2010.

He said: “It’s great news that unemployment in Ealing North is down by well over a third since Labour were in power, and wages are now increasing. This is a clear sign that the Conservatives’ long term economic plan is delivering a more secure future for families.”

For Ealing Central and Acton, there were 2,636 claimants in December 2010, compared with 1,803 in December 2014 - a 31 per cent fall.

In Southall there were 2,730 claimants in December 2010 and 1,539 in December 2014 - numbers dropping by 44 per cent.

In the whole country, 30.8 million people are now in work, up by 1.75m since the last election.
