A HIGH-SPEED rail link to Heathrow Airport will not be finalised for another two years, MP John McDonnell was told this week.

It means uncertainty and blight could affect residents in the south of the borough while the government decides how to link the airport with the main route for High Speed Two (HS2) between London and Birmingham.

Mr McDonnell (Lab, Hayes and Harlington) was one of about 20 MPs meeting Transport Secretary Justine Greening on Monday, in a last-ditch bid to dissuade her from pursuing the £32billion project.

The Labour MP told the Gazette afterwards: “They said there would be no formal consultation until 2014. We were originally told December this year. It is staggering."
