SINCE my letter about banning hoods and baseball caps in shopping centres ['Harrow needs to ban the hood from its shops' Observer, April 24] it has been reported that a trial in Laindon in Essex has been a 'great success' in cutting crime, especially shoplifting, say Essex Police.
Another town that took up the Sunday Express 'Ban the Hood for Good' crusade is Penzance. More that 80 posters based on a No Entry traffic sign with the words 'Hoods down to shop in this town' were printed by the police with the constabulary shield on the poster, for shopkeepers to display in their windows - if anyone argues it gives them official backing. This is just the kind of thing shopkeepers in Harrow need.
