Lionel Road Primary School, in Brentford, and Osterley Park Day Nursery, in Isleworth, were both judged to be ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted inspectors - the highest rating available.

Inspectors, who visited the school in July praised the “exceptional leadership” at the primary school, in Lionel Road North, which was rated ‘good’ when it was last inspected in 2010.

As well as its overall rating of ‘outstanding’ it earned the top possible mark for all five criteria on which it was assessed in the report, published on September 2.

“Outstanding leadership has exceptionally high aspirations for pupils and similarly high expectations of staff,” the report concluded. “This results in all groups of pupils making rapid progress in reading, writing and mathematics. Achievement is outstanding.”

Councillor Tom Bruce, Hounslow Council’s cabinet member for education, said he was “delighted” for staff, governors, students and families at the school.

"I was particularly pleased with Ofsted’s comments about the aspirations the school had for its pupils. All groups of students are making rapid progress in all areas, which in a London school is a fantastic achievement,” he said.

Osterley Park Day Nursery, in Quakers Lane, Isleworth, also went from ‘good’ to ‘outstanding’ in its latest Ofsted report, published on August 14, and received the top grade for all three categories which were assessed.

Staff and youngsters at the nursery, which takes 20 children each day aged one to five and has been running for nearly 30 years, held a party to celebrate the achievement.
