The driver of a grey BMW, which overturned on Chertsey Road in Twickenham, has been pronounced dead at the scene.

Police discovered the vehicle at 12.25am and London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service were called to the scene.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12.52am.

Police believe the man was driving on the westbound carriageway but his car ended up on its roof on the eastbound carriageway.

The bulk of the traffic is concentrated between Twickenham stadium and Apex Corner.

Roads reopened

The A316 was closed in both directions as emergency services fought to save the driver’s life.

The westbound carriageway, heading from west London towards Surrey and the M25, reopened at around 5.45am.

The eastbound carriageway has also reopened at 6.40am.

What happened?

A man believed to be in his 30s was discovered by police in an overturned BMW on the A316, Chertsey Road in Twickenham.

The car had landed on its roof on the eastbound carriageway near Godfrey Avenue but police believe it had originally been travelling in the westbound carriageway.
