The official launch of the new partnership between intu Uxbridge and Michael Sobell Hospice took place at the weekend.

The shopping centre is to donate £25,000 to the hospice based in Mount Vernon Hospital, Uxbridge to sponsor one of its nurses for a year. Among those there to celebrate the partnership launch, known as the Butterfly launch, was TV designer Linda Barker and Hillingdon mayor Catherine Dann.

The shopping mall is in the early stages of planning a 'Butterfly Ball' to raise money and will redecorate one of the rooms in the hospice for patients and families. getwestlondon reported last week that pin badges would also be sold to raise money for the hospice.

intu Uxbridge MD Craig Higgins said: “We are delighted to adopt Michael Sobell Hopice as our local charity partner for 2015 in recognition of the important work they do within our community. Butterfly pin badges and Butterflies in a Jar charity souvenirs, available exclusively at intu Uxbridge and Michael Sobell Hospice, were hugely popular at the launch. We’ve already made £500 towards our target!"

Ms Barker said: "I’m delighted to be a part of the intu Uxbridge and Michael Sobell Hospice partnership. The launch was extremely successful with lots of local children being kept entertained all day by taking part in various butterfly-themed activities. The butterfly pin-badges are a special souvenir to celebrate the partnership, I love mine!"

The launch on Saturday (Jan 24) saw face painters, entertainment, and arts and crafts entertain the youngsters present. Here is a selection of photos from the day.
