THERE were no men in bowlers and sadly no cat-suited femme fatales - but that did not stop fans of the Avengers enjoying their trip to the village.

Around 40 devotees of the popular television action series, and its sequel The New Avengers, flocked to Harefield by coach on Saturday.

They were there on a tour of the show's filming locations which involved a stop at St Mary's Church, in Church Hill, to fondly remember the part it played in the New Avengers episode,To Catch A Rat.

The whistle-stop visit was arranged as part of The Avengers Dead Man's Treasure Hunt, an event which has taken place one weekend every summer for the last 21 years.

The Avengers starred Patrick McNee as the dashing hero John Steed, with first Honor Blackman, and later Diana Rigg, as his glamorous partners in crime-fighting.The New Avengers also starred Mr McNee and added Joanna Lumley to the cast.

Church member Gordon Isaacs said: "We were delighted to have the Avengers fans here and hope they enjoyed their visit."
