A NEW Year’s reveller from Harrow was left with cuts on his face after a fellow Tube passenger smashed a bottle over his head without warning.
British Transport Police detectives are appealing for the public’s help to trace a man, pictured on station security cameras, in connection with the assault at about 1.15am on Tuesday, January 1, on a westbound Piccadilly line train travelling between Sudbury Town and Sudbury Hill stations.
Detective Constable Denis Mahoney, the investigating officer, said: “The victim, a 24-year-old man from Harrow, had been out with friends celebrating New Year’s Eve. He was sitting in the fourth or fifth carriage travelling home, when a group of about four men got on to the same train.
“Unprovoked, one of the group smashed a green beer bottle over the right hand side of the victim’s head, causing the bottle to shatter to the floor.
“The victim suffered two cuts above his right eye and one to the bridge of his nose, requiring stitches.”
Officers are distributing stills from closed-circuit television images of a man, believed to be part of the four-strong group, who they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.
Det Con Mahoney said: “We’ve carried out a number of enquiries to try and establish the man’s identity, including speaking to witnesses and circulating images on police intelligence systems, but to no avail so far.
“If you recognise this man, or have any information that could help our investigation, please contact us.”
The investigators have not established where the four men boarded the Tube train but know they alighted at Sudbury Hill Station.
