Hounslow Council sells itself as a green council but it is failing miserably to protect trees in Feltham.
It has allowed Feltham FC to make way for junior training pitches by cutting down a row of mature 100ft sandalwood trees.
Feltham FC has few local players and the park has ample room for more pitches anyway.
Why should we lose such beautiful trees for such a small football concern?
These trees were planted by the parks department 25 years ago to encourage birds, which nest and feed from them. They had been colonised by easterngreen parakeets, which loved the cherries, now sadly gone.
There was no consultation with residents about plans to cut down the trees and I am worried the site will be enclosed by wire fences topped with barbed wire.
Feltham FC said purses and wallets had been found in the avenue of trees, which it claimed was the ideal habitat for antisocial behaviour, but I have seen no evidence of these finds.
I have lived here for more than 40 years, much of which I have spent with voluntary youth movements encouraging activities like football and BMX riding.
I am disgusted by what is happening.
