A group of travellers who were served a legal notice to leave Blondin Park have now left.

Council officers are currently at the Northfields park assessing the damage caused.

Leader of the council, Julian Bell said: “We are relieved that they have left and it’s now a priority to try and be proactive and stop them breaking into our other parks.

“We do have around 100 parks and open green spaces that they could potentially try and break into so it’s quite a tall order for us to guarantee that we can stop them.

“I hope they leave the borough but we will have to wait and see.”

Rupa Huq, who lives in Northfields, said: “I have felt the nuisance that this community caused to the local area with their vehicles doing damage to the park so I’m relieved they have gone as well.”
