AN ALLEYWAY at Feltham train station is a magnet for anti-social behaviour, according to a commuter.

Mark Savage, of Carlton Avenue, Feltham, says the alleyway gives a bad impression of the town and is the only access for many train users when platform one is closed at night.

The 50-year-old freelance writer said: "It gets used by all the kids for anti-social behaviour. I suspect people go down there to urinate too.

"At night they have started closing platform one, so that's the way people have to go. It gives a terrible impression."

The alley, which leads from the 'To Reading' end of the station, is strewn with litter and covered in graffiti.

It has been described as a 'no man's land' by Mr Savage, who says he has tried to identify who is responsible for the upkeep of the alleyway.

He told The Chronicle: "No one seems to want to own up as to who owns it. It is very threatening.

"If I was a woman on my own I would be very reluctant to go down that alleyway at night. It is sheltered from the rest of the road and you can't see what is going on down there."

Mr Savage said the ideal outcome would be for the alleyway to be landscaped and maintained so it gives a better impression for people who have just arrived in Feltham.

A spokesman for Hounslow Council said the authority is responsible for cleaning the alley if a problem is reported.

The area has been reported to the council recently and work is expected to be carried out soon.

Feltham North councillor Gillian Hutchison agreed the alley was a problem. "It is a concern," she said.

"People use it when they're coming home in the evenings and it's not a very friendly alleyway to use."
