The clothes re-use charity TRAID has expanded its free home collections service offering scheduled pickups of unwanted clothes and shoes to every household in Uxbridge.
The service can be booked online, by phone or email giving people a hassle-free way to donate unwanted clothes directly to charity , direct from their door.
Collections take place at agreed times when people are at home, so donations are not left outside where they are vulnerable to theft and bad weather. Scheduling a pick up is also great for busy people and families, and those who may find it difficult to carry donations to a textile bank or charity shop.
All the charity asks is that people using this service have a minimum donation of at least one large bin liner sized bag. TRAID accepts good quality clothes, shoes, accessories, linen and homeware.
Maria Chenoweth-Casey, chief executive of TRAID, said: “Every donation is precious enabling TRAID to stock its charity shops and raise funds to protect the environment, deliver sustainable education and fight global poverty. “
One million tonnes of textiles are sent to UK landfill and incineration every year, with at least 350,000 tonnes of these textiles good enough quality to be worn again.
Passing on these clothes, rather than throwing them away, enables the charity to shrink landfill, carbon emissions and consumption, while raising funds to support projects in some of the world’s poorest communities.
