AN ACTON man who quit his office job to follow his dream of becoming a photographer, went on to capture the likes of Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.

David Lindsay, of Poet’s Corner, Acton, had worked for a large company in business marketing, but realised his passion lay elsewhere. So he decided to retrain and study film and digital photography at the London College of Communication.

The 52-year-old went on to shadow some well-known photographers before going freelance six years ago. He covers everything from weddings and portraits, to corporate photography and documentary. He has snapped big names including Top Shop magnate Sir Philip Green and Prince Charles and Camilla.

Mr Lindsay said: “When I was at college I did some pro bono charity work for the £40million renovation of St Martin-in-the-fields in Trafalgar Square. As part of that I was commissioned to photograph the royal party and the Archbishop of Canterbury. You’re not allowed to talk or direct them in any way, but they’re very well practised and they acknowledged you.”

Mr Lindsay says he aims to make people and businesses look their very best.

“It’s a very down to earth existence and I have some wonderful chances to meet some great people,” he said. “I’ve got to make people feel comfortable and happy that I’ve captured the best side of them.

“But when I do documentaries I can be more gritty and capture real life. I’m very happy I’ve been granted an opportunity to do this job.”

He runs his business from his home but has a portable studio to travel around London and the home counties, but he is never too far from home as he is a hands-on parent of two young children.
