Shopkeepers will learn about a proposal to regenerate central Harrow Wednesday (21) morning.
Traders from all the town centre stores have been invited to a Business Improvement District (BID) presentation being given by Harrow Council at Vue Cinema, in St George's Shopping Centre, in St Ann's Road at 10am.
A BID is a zone within which all shops pay a little extra business rates. This additional cash is retained locally and is spent solely for the benefit of the retail area by a company whose board of directors are elected by those businesses taking part.
In order to introduce a BID, a majority of stores have to approve the scheme in a ballot, because, under the law, all outlets become compelled to pay the additional rates if they are located within a BID, even if they oppose the idea.
Today's presentation will update shop managers on the BID creation process and the vote, a date for which has not been set.
Other BIDs in London have undertaken activities such as hiring their own street-cleaning teams, producing a free shop guide, running seasonal events and introducing more greenery to public areas.
