A fashion show of traditional dress spanned many cultures at a nursery’s international day.

Children and parents at Kiddie Care, based at Northolt Grange Baptist Church, took to the red carpet on the catwalk, which displayed national flags, enjoyed food with recipes from several countries and listened to world music.

Manager Janet Higgins said the day was held to give youngsters confidence in who they are and make them feel proud of where they come from.

She said: “Children came dressed in traditional clothes and they looked beautiful. In the nursery we have many cultures and the day was about recognising that.”

Mrs Higgins, who lives in West Drayton, said it was the first time the nursery had staged an international day and she hoped it would become an annual occasion.

She added: "About 50 parents and 45 children attended and the comments from parents were positive. They enjoyed it."

Kiddie Care caters for children between 15 months and seven years old and they come from Nigeria, Somalia, Ghana, Jamaica, Kenya, India, Ireland, Poland and the Ivory Coast.
