The Conservatives have racked up another by-election victory in Westminster.

Andrew Smith, 31, of Tachbrook Street, Pimlico, won the Lancaster Gate by-election with 805 votes, or just over 60 per cent of the count.

Liberal Democrat candidate Sue Baring came second with 325 votes, and Labour candidate Ahmed Hamid came in third with 205 votes.

There were 1,335 votes cast in the by-election, which was called after former council leader Sir Simon Milton quit to become deputy mayor and chief of staff for London mayor Boris Johnson.
