CONSERVATIVE Andrew Brown has been elected to Hammersmith and Fulham Council after winning the by-election in Fulham.

Residents went to the polls yesterday (Thursday) to vote for their council representative to replace former leader Stephen Greenhalgh who resigned to take up the Deputy Mayor for Policing role at City Hall.

But a small turnout of just 20 per cent saw Mr Brown winning 768 of votes to win the seat.

Labour's Ben Coleman - who trailed Greenhalgh by 1,588 votes in the 2010 election - closed the gap on the Tories with 416 votes earning him second spot with Paul Kennedy (Lib Dems) third with 331 votes and UKIP's Andrew Elston fourth with 39 votes.

Mr Brown tweeted: "Very tired but delighted to be the new Cllr for Town Ward. Thank you to all who voted for me and everyone who helped."

He will join fellow Conservative's Councillor Oliver Craig and deputy leader Councillor Greg Smith in serving on Town Ward.
