ALTHOUGH I am not a member of a political party, I have just received an appeal for funds from the Conservative candidate for the new parliamentary constituency of Ealing Central and Acton.

The letter says that this is a critically close marginal. I understand that each of the three main parties are within five per cent of each other.

It then goes on to say: "Unlike other political parties, we rely heavily on the generosity and goodwill of local people." Intrigued by this, I checked on the Electoral Commission website and found that, in the second quarter of this year alone, the local Conservative Party received about £40,000 in large donations, of which 90 per cent were from outside the constituency and mainly from corporate interests.

It seems that the Conservatives will tell us anything in order to get elected. I find this insulting. How can we believe anything they say, when they use such blatant untruths, even to people they address as supporters?

Please withhold my contact details, as I do not want to receive any more communications from them.
