A teaching assistant assistant who joined Alexandra Junior School to keep an eye on her sons is in line for a top award.
Michelle Hamilton's three sons, Lee, Kye and Ben, all studied at the school in Denbigh Road, Hounslow, where the 39-year-old has worked for more than seven years.
She has made the shortlist for the Teaching Assistant of the Year award at the 2008 Teaching Awards, the winners of which will be announced at a ceremony in central London on Tuesday.
"It was such a surprise to learn I'd been nominated," she said. "It's an amazing school and I've learned so much and been given so many opportunities here."
One of Michelle's key roles is running the School Council, which was created to give pupils a say in how their school is run and an opportunity to discuss improvements like the new breakfast club.
Michelle also teaches PE and works closely with children who have Special Educational Needs (SEN), many of whom have endured traumatic experiences.
Deputy head teacher Julie Cullen said: "There's an amazing buzz when Michelle's in your classroom because the pupils feel so motivated."
