A caring man has been nominated for working tirelessly for others for a great deal of his life.

Roy Warner, of Blacklands Drive, Hayes End, has been put forward in the Carer and Fundraiser categories for this year's Gazette Local Heroes Awards, for his work on the committee of Mencap Hillingdon South for 35 years and as a voluntary helper for Hillingdon Blind Bowlers since it began 12 years ago.

The 79-year-old also cared for his Down's Syndrome son for many years, until his death four years ago.

Mr Warner was nominated by Valerie Brooks, of Hughes Road, Hayes, who wrote in her nomination: "Roy has worked endlessly for the disadvantaged in our society.

"As a helper at Hillingdon Blind Bowlers, based at the Battle of Britain Club at RAF Uxbridge and Pinkwell Park, Hayes, he has never missed a match or a club meeting, apart from a short time following a heart attack.

"On top of this he fundraises locally for Mencap, and recently spent every day for two weeks in The Chimes, selling poppies for the Royal British Legion.

"When we use Hillingdon Community Transport he is always the one who gets off first and gets the steps down.

"He is a lovely person, so lively, into everything and helping everyone."
