PATIENTS using the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust have reported ‘a very good experience’ in a national survey.

The results of the survey, carried out at all 156 trusts in Britain during 2012, puts Royal Brompton and Harefield among the best performing according to patients. The Care Quality Commission released the results on Tuesday, April 16.

Patients who used either Harefield Hospital, in Hill End Road, or the Royal Brompton, in Chelsea, gave their views on aspects such as waiting lists, wards, care and treatment and leaving hospital.

In one question: ‘Afterwards, did a member of staff explain how the operation or procedure had gone?’, the trust achieved the highest score of all surveyed, and in 98 per cent of the questions, the trust scored ‘better’ or ‘about the same’ as other NHS trusts.

Dr Caroline Shuldham, director of nursing and clinical governance at the trust, said: “We are delighted that the results from the 2012 national inpatient survey show that patients at our hospitals have a very good experience.

“It is especially gratifying to see the improvements we have made since last year reflected in these results.”

The survey follows one held recently among trust staff, and announced last month, which showed that 93 per cent of employees surveyed would recommend treatment at Harefield Hospital.
