THREE top Labour members could be ousted out of executive positions in the council.

At Brent Labour’s AGM in May, it is expected that a number of councillors will challenge incumbents to take over seats on the executive at Brent Council.

A source close to the Labour party confirmed that Queens Park councillor James Deneslow would be challenging Lesley Jones for the position as lead member for customers and citizens.

Welsh Harp councillor Roxanne Mashari, who has confirmed she will not be standing as MP for Brent Central despite rumours, will be challenging councillor James Powney as lead member for environment and neighbourhood services.

Mr Powney, ward councillor for Kensal Green, has encountered widespread criticism for his handling of the closure of the libraries.

Barnhill ward councillor Michael Pavey will challenge Mary Arnold for lead member for children and families. He has worked recently to support Sure Start centres.
